(93.7 The Fan) It was 10 years ago today that Sidney Crosby scored what was dubbed the “Golden Goal.”

An overtime goal for Team Canada in the gold medal game of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

Beating Team USA, giving them a silver medal.

The goal put Penguin fans in a weird position.

Watching their home country Team USA lose a heartbreaker in overtime, but getting to watch their franchise player win gold and add to his legacy.

Crosby’s shot will last forever as one of the biggest goals in Canadian hockey history, but it extended team USA’s streak of no gold medals since 1980.

1980, the “Miracle on Ice” year, when Team USA beat the USSR on their way to winning gold in Lake Placid.

Team USA still has not won an Olympic gold medal in ice hockey since.
