Indianapolis, IN (93.7 The Fan) - The Verizon IndyCar Series released its 2019 schedule and they are coming back to the Keystone State, adding a new venue and heading back to a track that’s been off the schedule.

Pocono Raceway is back, scheduled for August 18th on the “tricky triangle”, three weeks after the series visits the track closest to Pittsburgh, the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Complex on July 28th. Kids ages 12-and-under will receive free weekend gate admission at Pocono in 2019!

IndyCar is adding a race at Circuit of the America’s, the 3.427-mile road course in Austin, Texas that has played host to Formula 1 and Sports Car races.

Austin isn’t the only race in the Lone Star State.  Texas Motor Speedway is back under the lights on Saturday, June 8th, after signing a four-year agreement with the sanctioning body.  TMS has hosted 30-IndyCar races since 1997.

The 2019 season will kick-off in St. Petersburg, Florida on Sunday March 10th.  The 1.8-mile temporary street circuit, that includes a runway of the Albert Whitted Airport, has been the season opener the past eight years.

The Series is returning to WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca for the first time since 2004.  Laguna Seca will be the site of the 2019 season finale on Sunday, September 22.  The 11-turn, 2.238-permanent road course has played host to 22-previous IndyCar races.

Two other changes on the 2019 schedule include Barber Motorsport Park’s race moving two weeks ahead on the calendar to Sunday, April 7th and Iowa Speedway’s event returns to a night race, at the overwhelming request of fans, on Saturday, July 20th.

You can’t talk about the IndyCar schedule without talking about the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The IndyCar Grand Prix will kick off the Month of May on the Speedway’s road course on Saturday, May 11th. The 103rd running of “The Greatest Spectacle In Racing”, The Indianapolis 500 is Sunday, May 26th.

The 2019 IndyCar schedule continues to maintain the track diversity the series is known for with races on seven permanent road courses, five temporary street circuits and five ovals.

All 2019 races will be broadcast by the NBC Sports Group with nearly half of the events on network television and nine events on the NBC Sports Network in addition to the IndyCar Radio Network.
