93.7 the Fan

Once again, the weather broke in time for practice, although they were limited to the new lower turf field and the field farthest away from the stands at Chuck Noll Field.  That actually gave fans lining the driveway into campus alongside the field a great view.  It remained mostly overcast after light drizzle making it comfortable for the players.

The QBs made some nice throws.  Mason Rudolph threw a bullet through traffic to JuJu Smith-Schuster, who made a habit of scoring after most every catch a la Antonio Brown. Josh Dobbs threw a beautiful rainbow to a streaking Damoun Patterson (from YSU) but it went through Patterson’s hands.  Ben Roethlisberger hit Darius Heyward-Bey on a perfect deep ball despite close coverage by Joe Haden (who also broke up a number of plays throughout the afternoon).  Later, Ben threw a pass over the middle that hit LB Anthony Chickillo in the midsection and threw another pass that Chickillo batted down at the line, as he took the place of TJ Watt.

Twice, LB Vince Williams grabbed James Conner in the backfield for losses and in 1-on-1 drills Cam Heyward schooled BJ Finney on 2 plays – first with a bullrush and next on a slick spin move.
