Ben Roethlisberger

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan)- First, he threatened retirement before last season on the 93.7 The Fan airwaves.

Then, he said, "maybe I just don't have it anymore" after a loss to the Jaguars (that first one in the regular season).

Then, after he got things back on track said, "I guess this old cowboy still has a little bit left in him."

Now it's the 2018 season. Ben Roethlisberger is 36 years old and the Steelers are tied with the Cleveland Browns at the bottom of the AFC North with a 1-2-1 record.

As The Fan Morning Show tried to pick up the pieces of a 26-14 home loss to the rival Baltimore Ravens Monday, Colin Dunlap felt comfortable saying this for the first time in Ben's career...

Maybe he's lost his fastball.

Maybe the game is zooming by him. Maybe his reaction time, his elusiveness, his accuracy, his decision-making is just a step behind what it used to be.

When Chris Mack looks at Ben, he sees a quarterback that just isn't the same as he was before. He sees a quarterback that is out of rhythm with his offensive weapons (#84 included) with a deep ball that hasn't connected nearly enough and doesn't look to be as accurate and effective as it was even a year ago.

A few callers into the show agreed to these sentiments, saying that part of the Steelers problem is abandoning the run way too early and not pulling the reigns back on the two-time Super Bowl champion Roethlisberger. James Conner ended up with just nine carries for 19 yards on the night and Stevan Ridley did not receive a single carry.

Another caller said the Steelers are trying to "keep up with the jones's" of the NFL by passing frequently and scoring by the bunches but are failing. He remember a time when the Steelers were "the jones's."

Is this just an overreaction Monday take in thinking the game is slipping by Ben Roethlisberger or is there legitimate worry here?

Oh and that's without even getting into that defense...

You can hear The Fan Morning Show's discussion about Ben, the defense, the loss and what Steelers insider Ed Bouchette's thoughts are below.
