PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - Would you rather the Penguins reach the Stanley Cup Final and lose, or win the NHL Draft Lottery, but lose in the first round to the Canadiens?

That's what Chris Mack and Jim Colony debated Tuesday on The Fan Morning Show.

The idea arose when we found out that Pittsburgh would have a 12.5% of winning the NHL Draft Lottery if they were to lose to the Montreal Canadiens in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs

While the guys admit that getting the chance to select Alexis Lafreniere with the first-overall pick in the Draft would be great for the Penguins future, they would also love to see the team go on a long, competitive playoff run following the hiatus.

"Well if you're not going to win the whole thing, then winning the lottery would be better for the future of the franchise," Jim said. "But in terms of what we've been missing over the last three-and-a-half months... you want to see some hockey, you want to see some competitive hockey. That would still probably be better to me right now."

"I'd take the lottery, to be honest," Chris said. "I would hate losing to the Canadiens and some backup goalie named Charlie. That would drive me nuts after three months with no hockey, only getting four or five games. But the idea of having Lafreniere as a building block, as transition from the Crosby, Malkin, Letang era to I guess a Guentzel, Jarry, Lafreniere era... It helps you build towards the future."
