PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan)- Former Steelers head coach now NFL on CBS analyst Bill Cowher checked in with The Fan Morning Show on Thursday to talk about this current Steelers team.

Listen to your team news NOW.

Cowher says the offense will continue to develop and evolve with Mason Rudolph at the helm and said that the situation the Steelers are in now is different than 2004 when Ben Roethlisberger took over as a rookie because Rudolph has already been in the system for a year.

He does see a shift in the identity of this team in 2019. He revealed those thoughts when talking about the defense making up for the loss of Stephon Tuitt.

"I think you have other people that can step in. It's just like losing a quarterback or anyhting else, it's not so much that position, it's the other people around them have to pick up their play. But that defense has played very well. I think that defense as a whole, is getting better and better because I think people are starting to get more comfortable particularly on the back end. As Minkah [Fitzpatrick] gets in there working with Terrell [Edmunds] and Steven Nelson in working with Joe [Haden] and then Artie [Burns] coming in with Mike Hilton. It's really been a pretty impressive group in the secondary because I think that's the biggest part, to me, with that defense."

"They're taking the ball away, they're getting after the quarterback, [Bud] Dupree is playing very, very well along with TJ [Watt]. It's a pretty formidable defensive group. I think the one thing you're seeing is that they're creating turnovers, it's kind of going back to the days of, this is a defensive football team. That's how they're going to win games."

"It's no longer the 'Killer B's'  as much as we always had before, where it was an offensive team that was complimented by the defense. This is a defensive team now that is complimented by the offense."

When asked if we will ever see a Bill Cowher comeback to coaching...

"If you want to see me, you'll see me on Sundays in a studio in New York City. I'm enjoying what I have in working at CBS, it's a good group of guys, great platform. I really enjoy it, honestly. Quite frankly, I'm in New York now pretty much full time, I do love the balance I have in my life. Love the game of football and just very blessed to be able to talk about it as I do and share the bit of wisdom I was able to obtain in my years of playing and coaching."
