The Penguins are starting to make moves as free agency opens this weekend. Our Pens Insider Bob Grove from Pittsburgh Hockey Now was a guest on the Cook and Poni Show when the trade with Buffalo came down.

The Pens traded Conor Sheary and Matt Hunwick to the Sabres for a draft pick.

"It is a salary dump," Grove said "Nobody can be surprised by this."

he said the Pens have cleared cap space for any moves they wish to make by trading away these player. It should save them over 5 million and give Pens GM Jim Rutherford about 10 million to work with.

"Sheary is just a guy that hasn't fit," Grove added. "Conor Sheary was always the obvious choice to go."

So what will the Pens do with teh additional money? Will they sign Jack Johnson? Will they make a trade? Will they bring back Chris Kunitz?

"I have so much respect for the way he (Kunitz) plays the game," Grove said. "but the game is starting to pass him by. I would not have an issue with him as a 4th line winger but you can't move him to Sid's line because that's just not there anymore."

Grove added all is there with Kunitz but the wheels. He has lost a step but everything else is there.

He also thinks that Phil Kessel will end up going to camp with teh Pens but not sure he will stick.
