The talk from the Pirates loss last night was that Starling Marte was benched for his lack of effort in Sunday’s Game and Cook and Poni wanted Pirates Broadcaster Bob Walk’s thoughts when he joined them on Tuesday afternoon.

“The players see it and they are waiting to see how it’s going to be handled,” Walk said. “He got benched as he deserved. Everyone saw the game from the night before where it looked like he was not giving his best effort.”

Walk added that he doesn’t have an answer as to why these moments continue to happen for Marte but if he were to guess it’s more of a situation that he is pouting a bit for his struggles right now.

He also doesn’t like how Marte addressed the booing saying that they should be supportive and the boos are a bad look for the fans.

“Here in Pittsburgh you get booed for no hustle,” Walk said. “It’s been that way ever since I’ve been in this city since the early 80s…so nothing has changed. It’s not Marte…It’s every player that has ever played here that is held to that standard…now if your good they’ll let you get away with a few more things but still if you’re not gonna pit out an effort they are going to boo you and I don’t see how that is a reflection on the fans.”

Walk also said Chris Archer getting hurt from his at-bat last night is not a solid argument for him to get the DH in the national league. He still feels that the players could get hurt doing anything in the game and they should be able to just play but although Bob is not happy about it…He knows the DH is coming.

“When it happens I’m not going to jump off the Clement Bridge,” Walk said. “But I don’t want to see it.”
