PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Following a long rain delay and a hard earned victory Pittsburgh will be back in action this evening against Chicago in the third game of a four game set at PNC Park. The Pirates (41-43) were willed to victory by Adam Frazier, who had his second consecutive four hit night, along with getting six shutout innings from their bullpen to take down the Cubs (45-41) by a final score of 5-1.

On the mound for the Buccos tonight will be right hander, Chris Archer. Archer has had an up and down season, going 3-6 in his 14 starts, striking out 80 batters in 73.2 innings of work with a 5.50 earned run average. In his last outing, Archer exited the game early due to left hip discomfort after going just 4.0 innings where he allowed two runs on three hits and a pair of walks while striking out six in the Pirates 3-2 win over Milwaukee on June 28. Archer has made four career starts against the Cubs where he has done well, going 2-1 with a 2.25 ERA.

Opposing Archer will be right hander, Yu Darvish. After missing most of last season due to injury, Darvish has had a tough time in his return in 2019, going 2-4 with a 4.98 ERA in 17 starts. Last time out, Darvish was dealt his fourth loss of the season after allowing five earned runs on five hits and two walks while striking out eight batters in five innings of work. Darvish will step on the mound tonight at PNC Park looking to earn his first victory since April 27 against Arizona. Yu has made three starts in his career against the Pirates where he has gone 1-2 with a 3.12 ERA>

Following tonight’s contest, the Bucs will face off against Chicago once more tomorrow afternoon on Independence Day. After that, Pittsburgh will begin a three game series against the NL Central leading Brewers this weekend before taking some much needed time off for the All Star break.
