The Pirates bounced back from losing two games Saturday by a combined score of 28-6 by blanking the Blue Jays, 5-0 in Dunedin

The Pirates jumped out with some aggressive baserunning as Adam Frazier singled to lead off the game, went to third on a ground out to first then scored on Josh Bell’s sacrifice fly. In the 2nd inning they used the long ball to score 4 more runs. Austin Meadows walked, scored on Kevin Kramer’s triple, then Frazier and Gregory Polanco hit back-to-back home runs, Frazier’s to the opposite field.

Since starting out 0-for-8, Frazier is 10-for-his-last-15 to raise his average to .435, plus 5 walks. “Just trying to swing at good pitches, but I feel pretty good right now, just trying to keep it goin’,” Frazier said, and he has been the Pirates' most effective leadoff batter, yesterday as the DH. Clay Holmes, who spent all last season in Indianapolis, made his first start of the spring (but third appearance against Toronto) and by far this strongest outing, going 3 scoreless innings, 1 hit, 2 strikeouts, no walks.  “I've been steadily getting better throughout the spring,” Holmes said, “I think some things finally came together today; getting ahead of the hitters, getting ground balls which is what I do when I’m at my best.”  Holmes said he was also more comfortable starting since that is tyoically his regular season role.

"He was dialed in." Clint Hurdle added, "He threw all his pitches - the 2-seam fastball played down, the 4-seamer changed the eye level, the cutter was a very affective pitch for him today, sprinkled in the curve - really fun to watch."

5 relievers completed the shutout, with Brett McKinney striking out 5 over the last two

Tyler Glasnow is scheduled to start against the Orioles tomorrow afternoon at LECOM Park and on 93.7 The Fan.  Kevin Siegrist and Josh Smoker –battling for bullpen spots – are also expected to pitch then the the Bucs get their second and final off day of spring training Tuesday.
