PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - The Pirates have placed starting pitcher Ivan Nova on the 10 day disabled list with a strained right ring finger. Taking his place in the starting rotation will be 26 year old rookie, Nick Kingham who was pulled after an inning in his last start in AAA due to anticipation that he would be called up following Nova’s last start.

Kingham has a 2-1 record with a 3.44 earned run average in three starts this season. Throughout the entire year, the Pirates have rotated Kingham between AA, AAA and the majors to ensure that he would continue to pitch every five days. The right hander has struck out 21 batters in just 18.1 innings of work in the big leagues this season. He is scheduled to take on John Lester in the second game of a three game home series against the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m.
