Bucs look to keep the good times rolling against the Marlins

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Winners in their last four, the Pirates will look to stay hot as they will take on Miami this afternoon at PNC Park in the second game of a three game series. Pittsburgh (70-71) is coming off a 5-3 win over the Marlins (56-85) on Friday, where they received late game heroics from young prospects Kevin Kramer and Jordan Luplow.

On the mound today for the Bucs will be veteran right hander, Ivan Nova. In 25 starts this season Nova has gone 7-9 with a 4.35 earned run average. Nova struggled in his last outing, allowing four earned runs off of six hits and two walks in only 3.2 innings of work which earned him the loss against the St. Louis Cardinals on August 28. While he might have had trouble against the Cardinals, one team that Nova hasn’t had problems against is the Marlins. In three career starts against Miami, Nova has gone 3-0 with a 1.25 ERA.

Opposing Nova will be veteran lefthander, Wei-Yin Chen. In 22 starts this season Chen has a record of 6-9 with a 6.46 ERA. Chen was excellent in his last outing, where he went 8.0 innings, allowing just one earned run off of three hits and struck out seven and earning a win over the Toronto Blue Jays on September 1. In two career starts against the Pirates, Chen has gone 1-0 with a 4.38 ERA.

Batting leadoff once again for the Bucs will be Adam Frazier. Since being recalled from Triple-A on July 25, Frazier has been red hot, hitting .342 (39-114) with 14 doubles, five home runs and 20 RBI in 36 games. Only four players in all of the National League (Justin Turner, Ben Zobrist, Paul Goldschmidt and Anthony Rizzo) have hit better than Frazier over that period of time.

Following their game this afternoon, the Bucs will play Miami once more before hitting the road to St. Louis to take on the Cardinals.
