PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan)- Now that Antonio Brown and Art Rooney II have decided to go their separate ways, it's time to talk about what the plan is moving forward without #84.

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Steelers writer Ray Fittipaldo joined The Fan Morning Show Wednesday to discuss how the next few months might look for the franchise.

"I think next week at the [NFL] Combine, it's going to be busy for Kevin Colbert, Mike Tomlin and that entire staff," said Fittipaldo. "They're going to have, hopefully for their sake, five, ten maybe 12 teams involved in this and I think things are going to ramp up there. Ideally, the first day you can make a deal is March 13th and you have a four-day window to get that done because he's due a $2.5 million roster bonus on the 17th. So, I really think you're going to hear more and more about this starting next week at the Combine and they can have a deal in place at any point and they can finalize it on the 13th."

Ray thinks it would be a smart move for the Steelers to eat the roster bonus and wait until closer to the NFL Draft if it means they get a better return for Brown.

"It wouldn't be the ideal scenario because you potentially would still have that distraction and they would just want to be done with it. It's interesting, I've read more and more stories nationally that first round picks are back in play now. You would assume that Art had those conversations with [Brown's agent] Drew Rosenhaus yesterday, 'Hey, just keep quiet. We'll take care of you. Stop going on Instagram. Stop going on Twitter, and we'll get this done.' I think if Antonio can be quiet for a couple weeks and not do anything stupid, then I think a first-round pick will be back in play."

"At this point, I wouldn't trade him for a 3rd round pick. I might do it for a 2nd round pick but I might pay that bonus and see what I can get for him getting closer to the Draft."

If Ray had to choose a free agent receiver target, he would choose former Ravens WR John Brown as a potential fit for the Steelers. Whether it's through the draft or free agency, he thinks they need a receiver with speed that can streak down the field and draw double teams away from JuJu Smith-Schuster.
