Cervelli: "This Has Been An Amazing Group Since Spring Training"

The Pirates Catcher Returns From The DL Thursday Ready To Contribute To Success

July 26, 2018 - 4:43 pm

Pirates Catcher Francisco Cervelli returns to the Pirates lineup Thursday night  after his latest stint on the disabled list with a concussion.

"I feel good, I'm back again," said Cervelli.

When asked about whether the symptoms felt different this time around so soon after his previous concussion.

"No, it felt the same," said Cervelli. "I just play 4 games, got hit 4 times and the symptoms came back."

Cervelli said these past two concussions will not change the way he will play the game and there is nothing he could of done differently to prevent this previous concussion. And on whether or not he is scared about the cumulative effect of cuncussions on his life.

"Not scared, it's just weird," said Cervelli. "You don't feel right.  It's not funny when you wake up and feel like that for days."

He also said it's tough to be away from doing what you love, but he's back now and ready to help this team keep winning.  He weighed in on the way the team has played over the past few weeks and whether or not he is surprised by the success at all.

"We come here to win games," said Cervelli. "And sometimes people say we're wrong and say we don't put 100% effort, but it's not true."

He says this has been an amazing group since the beginning of spring training.

"This is a special group," said Cervelli. "And things like this doesn't impress me.  We're here to do things like that (winning streak) and be in the playoffs."
