PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Before the Pirates began their third and final game against the Dodgers at PNC Park on Sunday the club announced its latest roster move which involves yet another key player making a trip to injured list. After being hit in the front of the mask with a bat on Saturday night, Bucco’s catcher Francisco Cervelli left the game due to concussion like symptoms. Today, the team has placed him on the seven day injured list, with a concussion.

Cervellli has a troubling history with head injuries, being diagnosed with two in both 2017 and 2018 in addition to the handful he has suffered from in the years prior. This most recent injury comes just days after Cervelli left the game early against the Rockies on May 21 when he was hit in the neck by a foul ball. He is now the 22nd Pirates player this season to be placed on the Injured List.

With Cervelli out of commission, the Pirates have selected the contract of catcher Jacob Stallings from Triple-A Indianapolis to fill his spot on the roster. In an unrelated move, the Bucs designated infielder Jake Elmore for assignment and selected the contract of corner infielder Jose Osuna from Triple-A as well. Both Stallings and Osuna have spent time up with the big league club over the past three seasons.
