WATKINS GLEN, NY (93.7 The Fan) - Chase Elliott ended a streak of seven races without a top 10 finish in grand style by winning Sunday's Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Go Bowling At The Glen at Watkins Glen International.  The win was Elliott's 2nd of the year and 5th in his young career.

"It's nice to get out of the slide we were in," said Elliott in Victory Lane.  "This past month-and-a-half hasn't been any fun.  Great way to rebound."

Elliott led 80-of-90-laps and beat Martin Truex Jr. to the checkered flag by 0.454-seconds for the second year-in-a-row at WGI.  Elliott became the first back-to-back winner at WGI since Marcos Ambrose accomplished the feat in 2011-12.

"Martin was really good," said Elliott.  "I thought maybe even a little better than us on that last one (stint).  My team did a great job.  Our NAPA Camaro was fast, just fast enough and my guys had a great day on pit road and we stayed mistake free on the track and track position was king."

Truex was able to get as close to Elliott at 0.2-seconds in the closing laps but just couldn't generate enough momentum to get along side Elliott to make the pass.

"I tried to all I could," said Truex.  "Chase did an excellent job and didn't make any mistakes.  I could get within 2-car lengths, maybe one-and-a-half under braking, to just try to force a mistake but he hit his marks.  His car was really fast in a few of the key areas, like getting off of a few of the key corners.  I just couldn't get a run on him and was kind of stuck there.  Our Bass Pro Shops Camry was really fast, just couldn't pass that last one."

Truex's teammates Denny Hamlin and Erik Jones finished third and fourth to give Joe Gibbs Racing positions 2-3-4 in the finishing order.

Team Penske's Ryan Blaney finished fifth.

Chip Ganassi Racing's Kyle Larson finished eighth and his teammate Kurt Busch finished 10.

The next race for the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series is August 11th at Michigan International Speedway.
