Hornqvist Deal Is Official, MLB Players Union Files Grievance

The Cook & Poni Show

There was plenty to discuss on the Tuesday February 27, 2018 edition of The Cook and Poni Show as right as the show started the Penguins made the Patric Hornqvist contract extention of 5 years and $5.3 million a year official.  And both Andrew and Ron like the deal and said they don't mind the length of the deal because that is what they needed to do since Hornqvist seemed to take a hometown discount on salary.  Late in the 1st hour of the show we get news from Penguins Morning Skate that Head Coach Mike Sullivan announced that Matt Murray has been diagnosed with a concussion and his timetable is day to day.  Andrew and Ron debate about which goalie they would like to see get the bulk of the playing time while Murray is out. Andrew says he would go with Tristan Jarry, but Ron believes you just have to go with whichever goalie, Jarry or Desmith, gets on a roll.

A report came out on twitter from Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times that the MLB Players Association has filed a grievance against the Rays, Marlins, Athletics and Pirates over their spending of the revenue sharing money.  This was quickly followed up by the MLB and Pirates President Frank Coonelly releasing statements in response to the claims.  Andrew and Ron react to this news and what it means going forward for these four teams, in particular the Pirates, and if there is any validity to the Players Association's grievance.
