“There was a ton of interest going back when he was with Montreal. When he got traded to Arizona, Pittsburgh was right there,” Pagnotta said.

Pagnotta has known Galchenyuk since he was 17 years old so he had a lot of good things to say about him.

“He wants to be in an environment that accepts him. He’s got the foot speed, he’s got the eye for the net, he's got the finish," Pagnotta said.

The Canadiens didn’t know how to use Galchenyuk correctly and that’s why it didn’t work out in Montreal. David said "I see a differently motivated player" now that he is going to be a Penguin.

Galchenyuk was the guy the Penguins wanted in this deal.

“He was the first piece they went with, if they were going to move Kessel they wanted someone that would come back and have an impact on the roster immediately."

Pagnotta also said the Penguins could still add.

“If they are looking pull the trigger on something else, I think they are going to start to take a look at what the bargains could be out there, and look for someone avenues to shed a roster spot or some salary a little bit later.”
