PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan)- Michael "The Fort" McKenry joined The Fan Morning Show on Friday and said that Friday's starter Joe Musgrove embodies the Pittsburgh Pirates and what every pitcher in baseball should be like.

"I've said, 'the Pirates always need to have a pirate' and he's the pirate. He's the guy that is a little bit intimidating, you're not sure if he's going to throw it in your ear or if he's going to be the nice guy," said McKenry. "I love this guy. I think it was by far the best pick-up of the offseason."

"He comes in, he does his job every day, he loves his guys, he'll go to war for his guys. But he'll bunt, he'll run, he fields his position. The other day, I almost threw up watching the game. He got an error and it wasn't his fault. The ball was above his head and he's 47 feet tall and I was like, 'this guy is going to win a Gold Glove and we just gave him an error!' I'll fight for that guy."

He even went so far as to say he is a must-watch for adults and kids alike.

"That guy is first class, hard-nosed, plays the game the right way and every kid in America should be watching him play because, I mean, what a person to look up to."

McKenry loves the duo of Cervelli and Diaz behind the dish, but with Cervelli's concussion issues, he believes he could make a position change eventually.

"I liked what I saw at first base so I could see him do some third base," said McKenry. "Russell Martin in Toronto has actually played some third and short and some different things just to give him more value and I like that idea."

"I've not seen too many catchers, unless they just can't move, not be able to field a groundball very well. I mean, you've got to think, we catch 100 mph fastballs, sliders, splits, we have to block it. You can figure it out, you can keep the ball in front of you no matter what and make that throw across the diamond."
