PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Penguins center Evgeni Malkin had a special message on his skates Wednesday night during the team's 7-2 rout of the New York Rangers.

On Monday, a gas leak explosion at an apartment building in Malkin’s hometown of Magnitogorsk, Russia left 39 people dead.

Crews ended the search for survivors three and a half days after part of the building came down. Rescue crews were able to find one survivor.

To pay tribute to his fallen neighbors Malkin put a message on each of his skates roughly saying “Magnitogorsk we are with you” and “Magnitogorsk you are in my heart”.

Malkin scored a goal, an assist and was named the #2 star of Wednesday’s game.
