Pittsburgh (93.7 The Fan) - The Pirates are expected to sign free agent right-hander Jordan Lyles by the weekend.  Lyles, 28, agreed to a one-year, $2.05 million contract on Tuesday, the same day that the Pirates traded right-handed starter Ivan Nova to the White Sox.  Lyles' deal is pending a physical.

Lyles is an 8-year veteran, having pitched for Houston, Colorado, San Diego and Milwaukee.  Career-wise, his record is 31-52 with a 5.28 earned run average.  He's made 115 starts and 102 relief apperances, compiling a 5.28 ERA in each role. Last season with the Brewers and Padres he was 3-4 with a 4.11 ERA  and 1.266 WHIP in 35 games.

While pitching for the Rockies at PNC Park in May 2016,  Lyles delivered a fastball that struck Pirates pitcher Ryan Vogelsong in the face, causing a serious left eye injury.  Vogelsong was critical of Lyles, saying he did not contact him until two months after the incident.
