Pittsburgh (93.7 The Fan) - James Conner did his best to play coy with reporters following Steelers practice on Wednesday, but his jovial demeanor gave away what can only be described as good news for a team badly in need of some.  The running back practiced fully for the first time since he suffered a high ankle sprain December 2, forcing him to miss three games.

"I'm not predicting too far, but I'm healing up, getting better and hoping for the best," Conner said.

That was his most expansive answer regarding Sunday's must-win game vs Cincinnati.  The normally pokerfaced Conner responded "just getting better" numerous times when asked in a variety of ways about his playing status. Conner made it clear his comments a week ago that he probably wouldn't be able to play against the Saints were behind his new scripted response.

"I said too much last time," Conner said.  "I've got to be careful with what I say because it gets tweeted out immediately, so I'm just getting better every day."

As the brief media session went on, he seemed to enjoy the back-and-forth.

"This is fun, what else we got?" Conner said laughingly after the ninth health-related question.

He showed his sense of humor up through the end of the inteview when a reporter late to the scrum asked him how he felt.  Conner responded, "who wants to answer for him, anybody?"  When several media members said in unison "it's getting better" Conner couldn't hold back a big grin and laugh.
