PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan)- On April 30th, Joey Gallo took an inside fastball from Pirates' closer Felipe Vazquez and sent it 467 feet into the stands at Globe Life Park in Arlington.

On Tuesday night, Gallo came to the plate again against Vazquez, in a one-run game in the bottom of the 9th.

The affectionately named "Nightmare" wasn't going to let that happen again.

"Yeah I got a little bit excited on that AB with Gallo because you know what happened last time I faced him so you know, you gotta put a little bit more into it," said Vazquez as he laughed about it with The Fan Morning Show on Wednesday.

His "little bit excited" resulted in a 101 mph fastball blown right by the Texas slugger for his 10th save of the season.

Vazquez revisited what exactly happened with that home run a week ago.

"You know when you're behind in the count, it was like 3-1, I don't want to walk him. I want him to put the ball in play because walks aren't my thing. I was just trying to make him put the ball in play...actually, he put it in play but not the way I wanted it," Vazquez said with a chuckle. "You just have to keep making pitches and forget about it."

The fiery Vazquez relishes every opportunity he gets to take the mound, regardless of whether it is a save situation or not.

"I love pressure, I like to work under pressure. So, tie games for me are the best because you have to keep the game the way it is. If you're one run ahead or two ahead it's even better because you're actually pitching to hold a game and win the game for the guys. I like the way the Pirates are using me, tie games, ahead by 2, ahead by 3, I'll take all of that."

As a veteran reliever, Vazquez has used his MLB experience and particularly his struggles to help his mates in the bullpen.

"Everybody goes through it, we all struggle at some point. I think it was my time last year. All you've got to do is keep your head up, just work through it. You cannot get stuck on that, if you get stuck on that you're not going to get outs. So for the relievers, you've just got to stop thinking about that and keep moving forward."
