PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - It's MLB no waiver trade deadline day and the Pirates surprised their fans with news this morning that they acquired RHP Keone Kela from the Texas Rangers for LHP Taylor Hear and a player to be named later.  93-7 The Fan Pre/ Post Game Co-Host and former Mariners GM Jack Zduriencik joined Cook and Poni today to recap the move.

"I thought this was a terrific trade," Zduriencik said. "They just upgraded their bullpen by getting this arm. They made this club better."

The 25-year-old Kela has recorded 24 saves in 25 opportunities while also posting a 3.44 ERA (36.2ip/14er) and 44 strikeouts in 38 appearances with the Rangers this season.  His 24 saves currently rank fifth among the American League leaders and his save percentage (96.0) is second in the A.L. behind Aroldis Chapman.

Zduriencik has always liked Kela as he drafted him when he was with the Mariners but he chose to play college ball before being selected by the rangers the following year.

He tells the guys that this is all coming together for the Pirates now with their bullpen and they got a guy that can help them for years to come.

Zduriencik also talked to the guys about what it is like to be a GM on deadline day and his thoughts on other rumors out there.
