PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - A night after becoming the first Pirates player to hit four doubles in a game since Paul Waner did it back in 1932, Adam Frazier just continued where he left off in Game 1 at PNC Park in Game 2 of this 4 game series against the Cubs on Tuesday.

Frazier singled to leadoff the game and came around to score on a Josh Bell sacrifice fly to right field to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead after the 1st inning.  In the 3rd inning, Frazier doubled with one out and came around to score on a Starling Marte double later in the inning.

The storms Tuesday night rolled in after the 3rd inning and after the 2 hour and 5 minute rain delay, Francisco Liriano pitched a scoreless Top of the 4th.  After Kevin Newman walked, Steven Brault pinch hit for Liriano and singled to right, Frazier came to the plate and put one over the Clemente Wall for a 3-run home run to give the Pirates the 5-0 lead.

"I'll take it, I'm feeling comfortable right now hitting," said Frazier. "Something Rick (Eckstein) and I have been working on the past few days, feel like I'm on to something. If it's leadoff or whereever, it doesn't really matter, just you and the pitcher, go hit."

Starting Pitcher Joe Musgrove was very efficient over his three innings as he threw 31 pitches, 25 strikes, and stuck out 4 while only giving up one hit, but the length of the delay was the cause of the Pirates going to the bullpen in the 4th inning.

"It's a bummer to leave the bullpen with that much work and personally I felt really good tonight, I felt like my stuff was sharp, I had a lot of weapons still to use that I haden't shown them yet so I felt we were setting up to go deep in the game," said Musgrove. "Bullpen did an awesome job, Liry (Liriano) stepping up and after an hour and a half being down just stepping up and coming in to get three quick outs and then handing it off to Richie (Rodriguez) for one and Holmes came in and threw incredible, it was really good to see that from him. Crick and Flip (Vasquez) you know doing their thing  in the backend."

After the Rain Delay, Liriano pitched a scoreless 4th with one strikeout, Richard Rodriguez a scoreless 5th with one strikeout, Clay Holmes pitched two scoreless innings with four strikeouts and Kyle Crick pitched a scoreless 8th with one strikeout. Felipe Vasquez came on to pitch the 9th and ran into some turbulance as he gave up a run, but got out of the inning striking out two.

Pirates pitchers combined to stikeout 13 Cubs batter's Tuesday night at PNC Park and even when Chicago seemed to be getting things going in the 8th and 9th, the bullpen was able to limit the damage.

"I think we're all feeding off each other and we're all putting each other in good spots," said Holmes. "So, when the guy in front of you does his job, it helps you. I think that's just something we're building off each other and we're putting each in the best situations we can when we come in."

The Pirates will send Chris Archer (3-6, 5.50 ERA) to the mound in Game 3 of this series Wednesday night at PNC Park against Yu Darvish (2-4, 4.98 ERA) and the Chicago Cubs at 7:05 pm.
