PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan)- Some time past 8:00 tonight from Cleveland, Ohio, Pirates slugger Josh Bell will take the national stage.

Stream MLB games now on fuboTV.

Bell is the 3 seed going against 6 seeded Ronald Acuna Jr. from the Atlanta Braves in the 2019 Home Run Derby.

As Pirates insider Jason Mackey told The Fan Morning Show Monday morning, this isn't exactly all fun and games for Bell, either.

"I think he's taking it way more seriously than he might let on. He wants to win. He wants to win it and he should want to win it. I think he sees an opportunity.

I'm sure some of it is financially motivated but I don't want to say he's out there just trying to make a million bucks, although who among us would begrudge Josh Bell for wanting to do that given his salary situation (the $1 million in prize money would be more than the 587,000 he makes this year).

I think he wants to continue to prove that he is an elite power hitter in this league. He has the stage to do it. I do think he also takes a great amount of pride in what this will say for the team, what this will say for the Pirates, what this will say for the city. I think sometimes athletes can say that and it's like forced or fake and I just don't get that from him. I think he wants to go out there and for his own pride, for his team and have a good showing."

Jason talked with Bell's mother and came away from that conversation claiming that Bell should be more than ready for tonight.

"This is a guy who has been prepared for this stuff for a long time. He was raised the right way. Dad took care a lot of the athletic stuff and mom took care of a lot of the academic stuff. They've just put a lot of effort into it. One of the things that I think is really cool about it, too is Josh's attitude toward all of it.

I know I had a dad that pushed me very hard in sports but it was never bad because I loved it. I always asked him for more and more and more. It wasn't like a 'living vicarously through your kid' and I think it was that kind of situation with Josh where he just wanted it. He kept saying to his dad, 'More, more, more. Let's do it.' And seeing the goal there and I just think it was a really neat relationship that played out."
