High School And Youth Sports Can Resume In Pennsylvania

Baseball leagues around Pittsburgh can resume practices and games

HARRISBURG (93.7 The Fan) - High School and other summer sports are getting the go-ahead to continue in Pennsylvania.

Governor Tom Wolf’s administration issued preliminary guidance that will allow voluntary workout and other in-person activities in areas that are in the yellow and green phase of the state’s COVID-19 mitigation plan.

“Pennsylvania has some of the best athletes and teams in the country and they can now begin to safely return to organized sports,” said Gov. Wolf. This guidance balances keeping student athletes safe from COVID-19 while allowing them to participate in an important part of their lives.

“This is another step toward reopening our state and getting things back on track. As students and teammates get ready to train and compete, it’s important that they follow precautions to protect each other and their community from the risk of COVID-19.”

For workouts to continue, schools must first develop an “athletic health and safety plan in alignment with the Department of Education’s Preliminary Guidance for Phase Reopening of Schools.”

In addition. Recreational and amateur sports like basketball, hockey, field hockey, football, soccer, swimming, baseball, softball, lacrosse, gymnastics and kickball.in the green phase can also resume practices and games.

Gatherings of players, staff, officials and fans is limited to 25 in the yellow phase and 250, or 50 percent in the green phase.

Organized youth sports are strongly encouraged to follow CDC guidelines

Parents and other fans are asked to practice social distancing, wear a mask and not go onto the field or playing area.

Parents are also asked to check their children for COVID-19 symptoms
