James Marvel Named Pirates Minor League Pitcher Of The Year

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - The Pirates announced their Minor League Pitcher and Play of the Year Wednesday.

James Marvel who went a combined 16-5 with a 2.94 ERA with Double-A Altoona and Triple-A Indianapolis is the Pitcher of the Year.

Marvel had 136 strikeouts in 28 starts in the minors.

In two starts with the Pirates this season Marvel is 0-2 with a 9.0 ERA.

The right-handed pitcher was select in the 36th round of the 2015 draft out of Duke University.

Jason Martin, the team’s Minor League Player of the Year hit .245 with 32 doubles, four triples and 35 homers in 131 games between Greensboro and Bradenton.

Martin, who had 129 RBI, was also named to the South Atlantic League’s mid and post season All-Star teams.
