PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - Pirates starter Joe Musgrove would love to have his former  Houston Astros teammate Dallas Keuchel in a Pirates uniform.

Joining the PM Team with Poni and Mueller Friday, Big Joe said with all of the injuries to the pitching staff right now, “it seems like it’s a good time for it right now.”

Musgrove says doesn’t talk to Keuchel much these days but understands why Keuchel is holding out to get more money from a club willing to sign him.

“It’s not in a selfish manor but to kind of pave the way for the guys that are coming after them and that are going to be playing in the future,” said Musgrove. “Those guys settle and take lower deals that kind of hurts the market for guys that are coming up behind him so as players we really respect that, that he is trying to get what he deserves.“

While Musgrove says he understands that Keuchel needs to do what’s best for himself, he would hate to see that kind of talent sit out all season.

“The amount of time that your body is going to hold up to be able to pitch is limited so I would hate to see him sacrifice an entire year and not play at all but I know there’s a ton of teams out there that could you another pitcher including us right now so I would love to see him over here in black and yellow,” said Musgrove.

Keuchel went 12-4 with a 2.90 ERA in 2017 to help the Astros win the World Series. Last season he went 12-11 with a 3.74 ERA
