BRADENTON, FL (93.7 the Fan) – With nearly double the roster size as allowed, the Pirates started trimming their roster Monday morning.

Eight were sent to minor league camp with one going straight to AAA.  Kevin Kramer was the lone player going to join Indianapolis, but likely many of the others will end up on the Bucs top minor-league team.

“We always want as many good players as we can get,” GM Neal Huntington.  “This AAA club will be or should be our best prospect based team in the 11, 12 years that we’ve been here.  You go around the diamond with Craig, Kramer, Tucker, Hayes, Reynolds, Martin and our pitching staff will be interesting with Brubaker and Keller leading it.”

Hitting .346 this spring with a pair of homers and 9 RBI, KeBryan Hayes was reassigned to the minors, along with first round pick Will Craig, who had 102 RBI in AA last year.

Also being sent down are utility player Nick Franklin, outfielder Brian Reynolds, catchers Christian Kelley and Arden Pabst, pitchers Brandon Waddell and Geoff Hartlieb.

“There may be some veteran guys fighting to make our club joining them,” Huntington said.  “We will have a nice balance of young prospects with some guys that are ready to help us in the short term.”
