The Steelers have against dipped into the MAC, selecting Akron inside linebacker Ulysees Gilbert III with their third sixth-round pick of the day.

Gilbert, who is 6-foot-1, 229 pounds, is the third player from the MAC to be drafted by Pittsburgh I the last two days.

A year ago, he was second-team All-MAC, tying the Akron record for most games played. He made 85 tackles, 7.5 for loss. He did not get to the quarterback as frequently as previous years, finishing with 0.5 sacks after having nine in 2017-2018.

Gilbert also becomes the third inside linebacker prospect chosen by the Steelers, joining first-round pick Devin Bush and sixth-round selection Sutton Smith, who is listed as an outside linebacker but projects on the interior.

In the seventh round, with the team’s last pick, Pittsburgh looked for added offensive line depth, taking Maryland lineman Derwin Gray.

Gray, a 6-foot-4, 320 pound product was a two-time honorable mention All-Big Ten selection the last two seasons. He started 35 games while with the Terrapins.
