Lyles Heading Back To Milwaukee In Pirates Trade With Brewers

The Pirates get minor league reliever Cody Ponce

 PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – The Pirates have made their first big move before the trade deadline.

The Bucs are have dealt Jordan Lyles back to Milwaukee.

The righty Lyles, who started 2019 off well, will once again be in a Brewers uniform.

Pirates General Manager Neal Huntington said the Bucs will get RHP minor league pitcher Cody Ponce in exchange for Lyles.

Pitcher Montana DuRapau will take Lyles' spot on the active roster. 

Ponce who was drafted by 55th in the 2015 draft currently has a 3.29 ERA in 27 relief appearances with Double-A Biloxi. He’s gone 1-3 with a save and 44 strikeouts.

It is Ponce’s first full season as a reliever.

Lyles has a 5-7 record this season with a 5.36 ERA. He spend last season in Milwaukee’s bullpen.

Lyles was scheduled to pitch Monday in Cincinnati against the Reds. 

The Pirates have lost eight in a row, are 10 games back of first place in the N.L. Central, and 13 games under .500
