PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan)- Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Matt Murray is hurt. Again.

While his young career has been filled with success in winning two Stanley Cups, it has also been riddled with injuries.

This latest one though, according to 93.7 The Fan's Penguins insider Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette during his weekly 8 am hit with The Fan Morning Show Thursday, should not keep him out long.

"It's upper body and that's honestly all I know. He didn't separate his shoulder or something like that. The fact that he's on this trip (to Florida with the team), it's only an emergency recall with [Tristan] Jarry, he didn't miss a lot of time other than practice yesterday, it's going to be fairly minor."

What's more interesting is Murray's long-term future with the Penguins. When do his injury issues make you wonder whether he can be a franchise goalie?

"I don't think there's internal regret about his contract, it got you two Stanley Cups. I don't think when Jim Rutherford did the contract he would have had any idea about Matt Murray's long-term health or inability to stay healthy," said Mackey. "That being said, I think Jim's in a really interesting spot here with Murray because I don't think you can sit here and defend these injuries as being flukey or anything like that. I'll preface that by saying also that I don't think that what he's dealing with now is anything too serious but it is like the 400th injury he's had so what do you do?"

"I think that it would be a very tough thing to have Rutherford let him go and don't sign him based on the fact that he can't say healthy but...he can't stay healthy. I would imagine in those negotiations that would get brought up and it's probably going to drive down the value if Jim does re-sign him which I think he's going to do."

Mackey also said Murray's injuries might make Rutherford's decision on whether or not to trade away Tristan Jarry for him. He has to keep him around because you never know when Murray will go down again.
