PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan)- Did you know that former Pirates catcher now AT&T Sports Net analyst Michael "The Fort" McKenry caught Chris Archer and Keone Kela in his career?

We didn't either until he joined The Fan Morning Show on Friday and had nothing but great things to say about both. The Fort is just as excited as you are for Chris Archer's debut Friday night.

"His ability speaks for itself, he's got more strikeouts than he does innings throughout his career," said McKenry. "I think coming to PNC, pitching in the National League is really going to help him. The opportunity to work with Ray Searage, probably develop a better sinker because that's one of Ray Searage's signature moves when he brings in veteran guys is teach them how to throw a nasty sinker."

"I'm excited to see this guy get to work and especially work with Musgrove and Taillon, two of the most competitive guys on the team. Those three guys at the top of the rotation you have to be pretty happy about."

Since Keone Kela is a little less known than Chris Archer may be, McKenry gave us great insight as to what we can expect from him as well.

"You can't get a better competitor, more intensity or more energy to go on that mound," said McKenry. "He's going to be fun. He's going to be dynamic. When you think of a closer mentality, especially an old school closer mentality where 'man, this guy is either going to strike me out, he's going to beat me up and if I get a hit I'm kinda terrified?' That's kinda Kela."

"He's absolutely disgusting. You're going to see times where Cervelli and Diaz are going to be baffled at some of the stuff he's throwing up there. His upside is incredible as long as he can keep that intensity under control, which I think he's done a great job of this year. The stuff's always been there. The mentality's always been there. I'm excited to see what he does for this bullpen."
