“I knew that (Bell) had great talent and this year he has put it all together,” said two time American League MVP Mike Trout. “His statistics show it. I am really excited to watch him (in the Home Run derby).”

When asked who his pick to win the derby was, Trout pondered the question for a moment but ultimately decided Bell was his favorite.

Ranger’s outfielder Joey Gallo also spoke about Bell, saying that his success was something he saw coming dating all the way back to their high school baseball days.

“He’s been incredible,” said Gallo. “I remember hearing about him in high school and playing against him a few times. He was always this big presence with huge power. It was only a matter of time before he put it all together.”

The American League All Stars were not the only ones who raved about the Pirates first baseman on Monday. Dodgers outfielder Cody Bellinger also had high praise for Bell saying, “What he is doing is special. We have played against him twice already and he’s done damage against us twice. He’s just a dude that is talented and really coming into his own in this league.”

A pair of former Pirates and teammates of Bell also spoke highly on his behalf.

Houston Astros starting pitcher Gerrit Cole, who played with Bell in his rookie season in 2017 said he was happy to see Bell make such a notable improvement.

“He’s always had this amazing talent to touch the baseball,” said Cole. “Young guys with a lot of power always have to fight that urge to swing and you can just see him staying within himself more.”

Cole added that Bell also looks smoother defensively, which is a product of him maturing as an overall player.

Finally, Tampa Bay outfielder Austin Meadows was not shy about his rooting interests for Monday night’s contest.

“I’ll be out there rooting for him for sure,” said Meadows about his teammate from a season ago. “He’s going to win it. Especially with Josh Schwind throwing to him. They got this.”
