PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan)- Former Major Leaguer now MLB Network analyst Eric Byrnes joined The Fan Morning Show on Wednesday and had some strong opinoins about that Josh Harrison slide that cleared the benches Tuesday night when the Pirates played the Mets.

"I have a lot of thoughts on this one...the first is that [Mets 2B Asdrubel] Cabrera needs to get his ass out of the way," said Byrnes. "What is he doing? The day and age of these guys thinking at second base or shortstop that they're going to stand in there the entire time because nobody is going to go hard into second base is a joke. That's number one."

"Number two is obviously Josh Harrison did nothing wrong. He's doing exactly what he should do and that's going hard into second base to break up a double play straight into the bag."

"Number three is [Mets pitcher Jeurys] Familia, it's tough for me to really get upset with him because he's defending his teammate and it's not like he knows any better. He sees his teammate get blasted at second base so he's upset. But, still that was dumb."

"The thing that really bothered me was the hug that Cabrera comes over to Harrison for. Now, I think he was trying to say it was okay and he understands but look man, Familia's your teammate. Familia just went on the line to say, 'hey look, I thought you did something wrong.' Now you're over here hugging him (Harrison)?"

Byrnes said all of this to conclude that this shows a greater issue in baseball today.

"The wussification of the game has become a joke," said Byrnes. "I think at some point we have to realize that this is a contact sport. As much as we want to try to protect this sport and make it quote unquote as safe as safe as possible is fine but when you start compromising the intracacies of the game, and one of those intracacies is being able to break up a double play cleanly and legitimately, now we have guys [complaining] at second base over the slightest little thing. I don't know, it bothers me a little bit."
