PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - Pitt football had a special guest at Thursday's spring practice, as newly appointed men’s basketball coach Jeff Capel spoke to the team.

Capel, a noted Steelers fan, got a tour of the practice facility that Pittsburgh’s professional and college teams share.

“Jeff seems like a great guy,” Pat Narduzzi said. “He’s got his work cut out for him and I think we’ve got the right guy for the job.”

With a football in hand, Capel was introduced by Narduzzi and briefly delivered an encouraging message to the entire Pitt roster.

“He was just talking about buying into what we’re doing and coming in every day and kind of owning where we’re at,” senior wideout Rafael Araujo-Lopes said. “He said that this is us, this is what we do, so embrace it.”

The comradery between the University’s two biggest sports programs is certainly needed and something offensive coordinator Shawn Watson thinks has flourished under athletic director Heather Lyke.

“In an athletic department, when everyone thrives, when everyone’s doing well, it just feeds off itself,” he said. “I think Heather does an unbelievable job of creating a community here and everybody is invested in each other.”

Narduzzi hopes that the programs can bounce their triumphs off one another as well.

“I want him to invite me to the Sweet Sixteen one day,” he added. “I’m looking forward to that and success on both ends helps everybody.”
