PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Following the press conference of newly signed cornerback, Steven Nelson the Steelers also welcomed receiver Donte Moncrief to the team on Tuesday afternoon at their facility on the South Side.

“It’s always been a dream to come and play for a team like this,” said Moncrief. “I have a few guys that I know who play here. I have played here (as an opponent) every year and I saw the fans, the way they come out and saw the guys.”

Moncrief, who was a third round pick out of Ole Miss in the 2014 NFL draft spent his first four seasons in the NFL playing for the Indianapolis Colts before last year, when he was a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

In 2018 Moncrief caught 48 passes for 668 yards and three touchdowns on an offense that had its fair share of quarterback struggles. In the year prior, Moncrief also had to deal with quarterback struggles when Andrew Luck missed the entire 2017 season due to injury. For Moncrief, the idea of playing for an organization with a hall of famer under center is something he very much looks forward to.

“I am looking forward to playing with Ben,” said Moncrief. “I cannot wait to play some years with him and catch a lot of balls.”

Moncrief brings a wide skill set to a Pittsburgh offense that was looking to make some additions to its passing attack. The five year NFL vet says that he is comfortable lining up at all of the wide out positions and is willing to play anywhere the team wants him.

Obviously, Moncrief will be partially responsible for replacing the production that left with Antonio Brown. For Moncrief, the primary focus will not be on trying to be the next AB but rather the best version of himself.

“AB, like everybody knows is the best, or one of the best to ever play this game,” said Moncrief. “You can’t try to be what he was, you can only try to be what you are. I’m going to come in and play the role that I can play, make the plays that I can make and do what it takes to make this team better.”

Along with Moncrief himself, there are a few other people close to him who are excited to see him play in the black and gold. At Ole Miss, Moncrief played with Steelers cornerback Mike Hilton, who he says was very happy to hear the news that they would be playing together. Also, Moncrief says that his father is a big fan of the Steelers and predicted that his son would sign with Pittsburgh four weeks ago.

Moncrief joins the Steelers on a two year contract to which the financial terms have yet to be released.
