PITTSBURGH (93.7 The FAN) - Pirates outfielder Austin Meadows is off to an incredible start to his professional career and joined The Starkey and Mueller Show to discuss his first shot at playing in the majors, how he's handling it and what he thinks of the four-man outfield rotation.

A lot of players come up to the majors and face some growing pains...that hasn't happened to Austin.  Given his success, Austin tells us about how the league has adapted to what he's doing and how he had to adjust after taking advantage of pitchers now knowing him when he first got called up.

"That's baseball," Meadows said.  "You're gonna have some games where pitchers don't make too many mistakes, you're gonna have some games where pitchers make them.  That kind of happened for me.  I felt like I was taking advantage of a lot of pitchers mistakes early on...but as of late, ya, you're gonna get pitchers you run into that really hit their spots and able to not make as many mistakes.  You gotta be able to capitalize on their mistakes.  Up here, they're not gonna make too many of them, but when they do, you gotta be able to capitalize or else it will be a long day for you.

Austin even took us back to his first at-bat at PNC Park and told us what it was like realizing his dream to play in the majors.

"Hearing the announcer say your name coming to the plate, all these little things that you kind of dream of as a kid and you then you finally realize it's there, it's a feeling you can't really describe."

Click the audio to hear all this and more as Meadows also talked with us about his brother just signing his contract with the Detroit Tigers after getting drafted this year.
