Kyle Busch is sitting atop the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series after winning Sunday’s Overton’s 400 at Chicagoland Speedway following an epic last-lap battle with Kyle Larson.

Busch had a comfortable lead when he encountered lap traffic on the next to last lap giving Larson the opportunity to catch the leader as the white flag waved.

Larson, using momentum generated by using the high lane of the track, darted to the bottom of the track in turns 1 & 2 as Busch took away the high-line.  Larson attempted to slide up in front of Busch’s No. 18 Skittles Toyota Camry, but the momentum Busch gained off the corner prevented that and the two made contact.

“I didn't initially go in there planning to run into the side of him,” said Larson.  “When I ran in there I figured I wasn’t going to have enough momentum to clear him and get going, I kind of made the plan to try and squeeze into him, to bog him down.  It worked.  He was able to back to my bumper into three”.

Larson was able to get the No. 42 Credit One Bank Camaro ahead of Busch down the backstretch going into turn 3, but Busch used the bumper and slammed into the back of Larson turning him sideways and giving Busch the lead as he headed towards the checkered flag.

“I thought he was going to pull a slide job,” said Busch.  “When he didn’t try to do a slider, then I wasn’t sure what his next move was going to be. I was like surely, he’s not going to drive into the side of me.  Then he did. After that point, all games are off right now, all bets are off.  It’s wide open from here on out back to the checkered flag”.

Larson somehow managed to hang onto the car and made it to the checkered flag ahead of Kevin Harvick who finished third.

Martin Truex Jr. finished fourth in the No. 78 Furniture Row Racing Toyota.  Clint Bowyer finished fifth in the No. 14 Wix Filters Ford, despite going a couple of laps down after getting caught speeding on pit road.

The next race for the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series is the Coca Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona International Speedway Saturday July 7, at 7 p.m. ET.
