PITTSBURGH (93.7 The FAN) - Mike “Doc” Emrick, Emmy Award winning play-by-play commentator for the NHL on NBC, says the upcoming Penguins-Flyers series is going to be “a blood boiler.”

Emrick tells 93.7 The Fan’s Starkey and Mueller says he thinks the Pens and Flyers are one of the more anticipated match-ups in the first round.

“You recognized that you have on the same sheet of ice five of the 20 best offensive players in the league that are going to be sharing that ice every other night . . . you’re going to have electricity and you’re going to have fire and you’re going to have fan bases that are going to bring it and that’s all a part of what makes a playoff series energizing before they even drop the first puck.”

Doc will be on the call for a lot of playoff games this year and at times will be between two familiar faces in Eddie Olczyk and Pierre McGuire, both of whom overcame their battles with cancer to get back on the broadcast, and he got choked up with us discussing his colleagues.

"I'm just thankful to God that both of them were diagnosed early and both of them had number one kinds of treatment and I am able to work with both of them again.  Eddie and Pierre will be together in Philadelphia with John Forslund Sunday afternoon."
