PITTSBURGH (93.7 The FAN) - As the Pens and Flyers prepare for their first round playoff matchup, The Starkey and Mueller Show did their preparation by trying to learn as much about the Flyers as possible.

Philadelphia Inquirer/Daily News Flyers beat writer Sam Carchidi joined the guys and talked about a team that appears to be hitting on all cylinders.

"This team is actually peaking at the right time and has a good mix," Carchidi told us.

As to the differences between this team and the one the Pens faced in 2012 that knocked Pittsburgh out of the playoffs in six games and saw scores like 8-5 Flyers victory in game 2 and the 10-3 Pens victory in game 4.

"This team is a lot younger, it has a lot of rookies and second year players that have really blossomed."

There is one similiarity between the two teams though.

"This team is still searching for a goalie that can be a shutdown guy."
