PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - The New York Mets hit 3 home runs, score 8 off of Joe Musgrove as they rout the Pittsburgh Pirates 13-2 to take 2 of 3 in this weekend series.

Sunday afternoon's game at PNC Park came down to the pitching matchup between Musgrove and Noah Syndergaard as the Mets were able to jump out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and continued to add on throughout the rest of the game.

"They were aggressive, that first inning, couple balls over the middle of the plate led to the long balls," said Musgrove. "From that point on, I felt like I was doing a good job of getting them on the ground and getting them on the ground quick. Just seemed like every ball they hit was either one step to the left or right of on infielders and we bring our guys in to try and cut off a run and the ball dribbles past guys, a little bit of tough luck and some poor execution early in the game. It's baseball man, you're going to have games like this, so got to sharpen a few things between starts, but sometimes you just have weird days like this."

The final line for Musgrove Sunday afternoon was 3.1 innings pitched and he gave up 10 hits, 8 runs, 2 home runs and struck out 5 on 71 pitches (49 strikes).

On the other side, Mets Starting Pitcher Noah Syndergaard was able to keep the Pirates offense in check as he retired 14 consecutive batters from the last out of the 2nd inning to first out of the 7th inning.

"He (Syndergaard) commanded every one of his pitches with a high velocity fastball, the slider played, the changeup played, that's back to back elite starts," said Manager Clint Hurdle, "He struck out 12 his last time out, he backed it up with a very strong outing today."

The offense did score late on an RBI single by Colin Moran that brought home Jose Osuna in the 7th and Osuna homered to right centerfield in th 9th inning.

The Pirates begin a 3-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers at PNC Park Monday night when they send Dario Agrazal (2-2, 3.65 ERA) to the mound against Jordan Lyles (6-7, 5.15 ERA) and the Brewers.
