PITTSBURGH (93.7 The FAN) - The NHL has their proposal for returning to play and resuming the 2019-2020 season, even if it's in a bizarre tournament style setup to award a Stanley Cup champion.

In his weekly spot with The PM Team, NBC NHL Insider Pierre McGuire voiced his skepticism.

"Quite frankly, I think that obviously there's a lot of hurdles still left to jump over," Pierre said.  "Every state's different, every city is different and you look at the border between Canada and the United States, it's still sealed off at least until June 21st.  There's a lot of stuff that has to go on before we're back."

Asked if the plan does work when he thinks we'll see games again, Pierre thinks it could take a while.

"I gotta think it's gonna take 4 weeks just to get everybody back into shape, so I can't see anything happening until July...if it does come back, and I have to stress that, if it does come back, I'd be shocked if we were back probably before the end of July."

That being said, Pierre further shared why he isn't so sure this plan will come to fruition.

"To be totally blunt, I still think it's a big reach, I really do.  Just because there's so many different hurdles to go over."

So what are those hurdles?

"Cities being open for business, maybe the virus has a second coming and we get a huge infection rate, the border between Canada and The United States not being open...there's a lot of stuff that has to go on here, it's not that easy.  15% of our league is still over in Europe and they can't get back any time soon."
