PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - The Pittsburgh Pirates bullpen could not hold onto a 2-run lead Saturday night at PNC Park as the Mets rally with 6 runs in the final 3 innings to defeat the Pirates 7-5 to even up this weekend series.

Jeff McNeil pinch hit for the pitcher in the 7th inning and hit a solo home run off of Michael Feliz and the Mets trailed 3-2.  In the 8th inning, Robinson Cano doubled and that was followed by a Wilson Ramos 2-run Home Run off of Kyle Crick to give the Mets the 4-3 lead.

The Mets then loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth and with two outs in the inning, Ramos hit one that was just out of the reach of Pablo Reyes in right fight for a double that cleared the bases to extend the Mets lead to 7-3.

Starling Marte hit a 2-run home run in the bottom of the 9th to cut into the Mets lead with one out, but Edwin Diaz was able to strikeout Josh Bell and Colin Moran to hold on to the victory.

After Chris Archer struggled in the 1st inning, but was able to limit the New York Mets to one run, he settled down and was able to get through 6 innings and leave the game with a 3-1 lead and a chance to get a win.

"Stalls (Stallings) called a really great game and I started executing at a high level," said Archer. "Like I said last time, I can't have a first inning like that, we're fortunate we made some good plays and I got out of it, but can't have a first inning like that."

The final line Saturday night for Chris Archer was 6 innings pitched giving up 5 hits, only 1 run, walked 2 and struck out 6 on 95 pitches (65 strikes).

When the bullpen faulters like it did late Saturday night, as a veteren is there anything that Archer can say to the relievers to offer encouragement or just leave it alone during the course of the game.

"Everybody here is giving it their best effort, whether it's the coaches or the players," said Archer. "Guys on the bench are trying to help guys that are playing. Everybody's prepared, everybody's giving it their best effort, there's nothing really for me to say."

The Pirates close out the 3-game series against the New York Mets Sunday afternoon at PNC Park as Joe Musgrove (8-9, 4.23 ERA) takes the mound against Noah Syndergaard (7-5, 4.10 ERA) and the New York Mets.
