PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - AT&T Sportsnet Penguins Analyst Jay Caufield joined The Cook and Poni Show in studio on Monday to recap the opening of NHL Free Agency and comment on the Pens moves thus far….the biggest being the signing of Defenseman Jack Johnson.

“I’ve always liked him as a player,” Caufield said. “He comes here with a clean start and it’s a breath of fresh air.”

Caufileld says he should flourish with his style of play and what he would have around him in this Pens lineup. A change of scenery might just be what is needed for him to get him going again.

“For the Pittsburgh Penguins…It’s a player they need,” Caufield added. “I do think this is going to be a good fit.”

A good fit is also why Caufield told the guys they decided to resign 41 year old Matt Cullen because he is a guy that still has some legs and his veteran leadership that he will bring to that locker room is something the Pens were missing last year.

Jay also talked with the guys about the other major move the Pens did to trade Conor Sheary to Buffalo along with Matt Hunwick to clear cap space for the free agents and the other important moves thus far through free agency.

You can catch the full two hours on the Cook and Poni Show podcast page.
