WASHINGTON (93.7 The Fan) - Stanley Cup Champion and fan favorite Pascal Dupuis was in Pittsburgh this past weekend with his son’s youth hockey team. While in town he visited his former teammates but it’s what he said when he got back home to Quebec that is causing some controversy.

While on a French Canadian network Tuesday night, Dupuis suggested Evgeni Malkin and Phil Kessel may not be getting along well with Coach Mike Sullivan.

Asked Wednesday about the comments Dupuis made, Sullivan said he was “surprised” and “disappointed” by them.

“I think it’s very irresponsible on his part when he should know better having been in a dressing room and understanding what we go through on a daily basis, it was a pretty irresponsible comment on his part."

There has been ongoing speculation that Kessel and Sullivan have had strong disagreements in the past but this is the first time Malkin has been lumped in.

“All I can tell you is that my relationship with Geno and Phil has been the same since I’ve been here. We all go through ups and downs and challenges throughout the course of the season,” said Sullivan. “I think that’s part of coaching I think that’s being part of a team . . . but no one has more respect for those guys than me. I believe there is a mutual respect that exists amongst us and so that’s just part of the process and us working through challenges.”
