PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - Pittsburgh Penguins Captain Sidney Crosby has been named the NHL’s third star of the week.

Crosby’s three goals and four assists in four games helped the Pens go 3-1 in the past week and move into second place in the Metropolitan Division.

With four of the Penguins top forwards going down with injuries, Crosby has made sure the Penguins don’t lose their season before it gets off the ground.

Centers Evgeni Malkin, Nick Bjugstad and Alex Galchenyuk along with winger Bryan Rust are all on the injured reserve. All are dealing with lower body injuries.

Crosby has a six-game point streak to start the season and is tied with teammate Kris Letang with the longest actives streaks currently this season.

Crosby and the Penguins hope to keep their offensive momentum going when the Colorado Avalanche come to PPG Paints Arena Wednesday for a 7:00 p.m. face off.

Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid and Winnipeg Jets winger Patrik Laine were named the number one and two stars respectively.
