Malkin Out Day-To-Day With 'Upper-Body Injury'

February 01, 2019 - 5:19 pm

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) – Penguins center Evgeni Malkin will miss Friday’s game against the Ottawa Senators and Saturday’s game against the Maple Leafs in Toronto.

Coach Mike Sullivan didn’t get into specifics but said he has an “upper-body injury”.

“He will not play tonight or this weekend. We are hopeful that this is a short-term thing and he’ll be back in our lineup soon,” said Sullivan.

Malkin has been struggling as of late and admitted he was having a problem with confidence but on Wednesday he had two assists and played one of his best games in weeks.

Malkin also got in a fight with Tampa’s Steven Stamkos during the game prompting some to speculate if the injury is a result of that skirmish.
