PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) –The Penguins have traded center Derick Brassard and forward Riley Sheahan and three draft picks to the Florida Panthers for forward Nick Bjugstad and center Jared McCann.

Fan Penguins Insider Jason Mackey with the Post-Gazette says the move helps improve the Penguins’ size.

The 26-year-old Bjuststad is 6 feet 6 inches, 215 pounds. He had 24 goals over 72 games in 2014-15. He is signed through the 2020-21 season.

Mackey adds he is surprised the Panthers would trade him.

The 6 foot 1 inch, 185 pound McCann is signed through the 2019-20 season. He has eight goals and 18 total points over 43 games this season.

Bjudstad will wear jersey number 27 and McCann will wear Brassard’s old number 19.

Penguins Analyst Bob Errey joined The PM Team Friday afternoon to breakdown the trade today and what it means moving forward for the Penguins.
